JUNE 20, 2018~LA FE

JUNE 20, 2018
La fe
On Sunday, a man we are teaching decided to get baptized. The baptismal service was scheduled to happen at 11 am. We got to church at 8 am and went to fill the baptismal faunt. We checked at 9am to see how things were going and the water in the chapel ran out. There was no water and no electricity. We had no idea what to do, but started filling buckets up, one at a time, from the outside faucet. Basically it was not going to get filled up on time.

We took all the garbage bins and buckets and loaded them into a member's truck. We went to his house and started to fill the bins from his hose but also the hose from his neighbors. Long story short the faucet got filled in time for the baptism. It was an illustration of the faith requires works.

APRIL-GENERAL CONFERENCE, ACTIVITY, & BETTER DAYS

General Conference
We watched general conference at the beginning of the month. It was a very uplifting experience. I recommend watching or reading what was said during the conference.

Activity
We threw a big activity here at the church building. We invited a lot of people and it was a great time. We talked about what happens after death and had different rooms explaining each place.

Better Days
Sometimes we think that our better days are past and gone. That perspective kills our ability to do well in the present. We try, but not our hardest, because the best has already passed.  It's an attitude that kills a person, a family, and a group of people. The better days are yet to come. We are to have the attitude if we want to succeed and to make good things happen. The best is on its way, because God wants to always improve and get better. Life is beautiful and today is beautiful and the future will be even more so. I love you guys.

March 5, 2018---FEBRUARY---ZITACUARO AND SAVE THE WORLD

Zitacuaro
I am now here in Zitacuaro, Michoacan. It is super pretty here and the pan (sweet bread) is delicious and cheap. I am with Elder Pietsch from San Diego (paisanos). We are excited to help some people out here in Zitacuaro. Also we meet all kinds of people that speak English. I must have the most american face in the world.

Save the world
Sometimes we may despair about the world and where it is going. Well sometimes I do. But I realized that a true belief in Jesus Christ and desire to change and follow His example is the only lasting solution. But often we have too much pride to accept to believe in someone or something greater than ourselves, we have too much pride to accept that maybe we do not know everything, we have too much pride to think that maybe the change needs to start in our own personal life before the world as a whole can change. Believe in Christ and see what the belief can bring you. It has brought me more than I could have ever imagined or hoped for. Love you all.

February 26, 2018---NEW PLACE AND NEW COMPANION, PHOTOS

NEW PLACE AND NEW COMPANION
This week was a sad week as I left Maravatio. I was not expecting to leave the area so early, but I am now in Zitacuaro (2 hours south). The area is very pretty, and I am with my new companion Elder Pietsch. He is from San Diego, California.

January 29, 2018---JANUARY---BARBACOA, PIANO & ENGLISH, LOS TRABAJADORES Y LOS VALIENTES

Barbacoa
We are teaching our land-lady a little bit. We are teaching her how to read the scriptures. Nobody has ever taught her how.  We are good friends, and sometimes she invites us over for some food because she sees us returning from the store with bags of ramen noodles and eggs. She has two sons around our age and knows how needy we can be when it comes to cooking ability. She fed us tacos of barbacoa. Which I found out as I was eating is lamb. It was more tasty when I found out what it was.

Piano and English
I am the piano teacher and english teacher here in Maravatio. I really enjoy seeing people progress in their knowledge.

Also I am starting a one month english course to (teach people how to) learn how to read in english. I am doing it more frequently to see if having more followup will help people learn and stay motivated.

Los Trabajadores y Los Valientes
A taxi driver told us today, "In life, the workers and the brave die first." I thought is a worthy quote to put up. Haha funny, but true. He gave the example of a brave person (no fear, kind of spontaneous) walking into a party jumping around doing all kinds of stuff, and then some other guy getting upset, whips out his pistol and beats the man dead. I then realized that maybe the parties this taxi driver has been do are a little different from the parties that I have been to.

"2"--- January 9, 2018---REYES MAGOS

Reyes Magos

This past week we celebrated Reyes Magos. Here, they have Santa Claus and the Reyes Magos. The Reyes Magos are the 3 wise men from the nativity story. Santa comes the 24th in the night and the Reyes Magos come the 6th of January. The point of the whole thing, is that they get double presents and have double fiestas. It is a good tradition. Also, on the 6th they make this bread that they call Rosca de Reyes. Its a huge circle that everybody shares. Each person cuts their own piece from the rosca. The people that cut a piece that contains a little plastic baby Jesus have to bring tamales for everybody on the 2nd of February. Im not exactly sure why, but all I know is that I have to bring tamales to everyone in our congregation on the 2nd.
